Malt Whisky

Aus 100% gemälzter Gerste. Keine andere Getreideart ist erlaubt. Malt Whisky wird im traditionellen Pot - Still Verfahren nach der unterbrochenen Brennweise zwei- oder dreifach destilliert. Die größte Malt Whisky Region ist Schottland, es gibt aber auch Malt Whisky in Irland.

Grain Whisky

Jede Getreideart ist erlaubt. Grain Whisky wird im Patent Still Verfahren nach der kontinuierlichen Brennweise destilliert. Grain Whisky wird selten unverschnitten angeboten, da er meist nicht sehr harmonisch für sich allein ist.

Blended Whisky

Eine harmonische Mischung aus Malt und Grain, die einen leichteren Whiskytyp hervorbringt. Blends herzustellen, ist eine Kunst, die von besonders ausgebildeten Spezialisten, den Masterblendern, ausgeübt wird. Blends enthalten teilweise bis zu 50 unterschiedliche Malt und Grain Whiskygruppen.
